Iconography of Manjushri
Manjushri is a Bodhisattva of wisdom and enlightenment, often depicted with a flaming sword in his left hand to symbolize his ability to cut away ignorance and false beliefs. His right hand holds a stem with the Book of Perfection of Transcendental Wisdom on top.
He is usually shown either seated on a lion or atop a lotus flower, representing the embodiment of the Buddha’s teachings and prajna (transcendental wisdom). His mantra is a reminder of his power to bring clarity and insight.
